In 2024, to honor outgoing Principal Danny Flynn, the St. Jerome Academy community commissioned artist Andrew de Sa to create an original work celebrating our Patron Saint.
Andrew crafted a stunning paper collage from hundreds of hand-painted pieces, now displayed in our parish church. The artwork features the church facade, a lion holding the Academy crest, and St. Jerome at the moment of divine inspiration, accompanied by his symbols: a red cardinal’s hat, a memento mori skull, and his loyal lion. The illuminated border depicts angelic beings and the battle of vice and virtue.
Inspired by illuminated manuscripts, the piece portrays St. Jerome as a scribe gazing heavenward, highlighting the profound significance of studying. May it inspire students at every stage of their academic journey.
On Saturday, November 9, 2024, Andrew presented his artwork, sharing insights into the spiritual inspirations behind his creation. A video of this talk is linked below.
